NiMet Seeks Inclusion Of Weather-Related Protocol In Multimodal Transportation Regulation

The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike, has advocated for the integration of weather-related protocols into Nigeria’s multimodal transportation safety framework.
Speaking at the Multimodal Stakeholders Workshop organized by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) on 31st July 2025 in Abuja, Professor Anosike emphasized that all modes of transportation—land, rail, sea, and air—are significantly impacted by weather conditions. He noted that understanding the interplay between meteorology and multimodal transport is crucial for the development of a safe, efficient, and resilient national transportation system.
Professor Anosike reaffirmed NiMet’s commitment to supporting national safety objectives through the provision of accurate and timely meteorological data. He stressed that weather considerations must be embedded in Nigeria’s evolving transport safety framework, particularly as the NSIB expands its regulatory mandate.
Professor Anosike commended the NSIB for its proactive stakeholder engagement and its efforts to harmonize national safety regulations with international standards. He expressed confidence that the outcomes of the workshop would result in practical, context-specific regulations that enhance transport safety across all sectors in Nigeria.
