The Director-General/CEO of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike, received His Royal Majesty, Oba Olayinka Oyetunde Ishola Jokotola II, the Olojudo Alayemore of Ido-Osun Kingdom, on a courtesy visit at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
The visit highlighted the importance of collaboration between NiMet and host communities, particularly in safeguarding meteorological infrastructure and enhancing the relevance and utilization of weather and climate services at the grassroots level. Discussions focused on strengthening community engagement, improving observation systems, and promoting awareness, research, and education on the value of accurate weather information.
Oba Jokotola II, who once served in NiMet during his NYSC year, reaffirmed his appreciation of the Agency’s role in national development.
Professor Anosike reiterated NiMet’s commitment to working closely with traditional institutions to protect critical infrastructure, improve data quality, and ensure meteorological services deliver tangible socio-economic benefits. The visit marks the first by a traditional ruler to a NiMet DG, signalling a new phase of engagement with traditional leadership.
