The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) joined other key stakeholders at the 10th Annual Airport Business Summit and Expo , held on July 16 and 17 at the Nigav Centre in Lagos.
The summit, themed “Investment Opportunities in Airport Public-Private Partnerships,” focused on exploring how collaboration between the public and private sectors can enhance airport operations and services across Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, emphasized the importance of aviation to Nigeria’s economic growth.
“As we are all aware, aviation remains a critical enabler of economic growth. It serves not only as a catalyst for trade, tourism, and investment, but also as a symbol of national connectivity and international competitiveness. Recognizing this, the Nigerian government has made deliberate policy choices aimed at opening the sector to greater private sector involvement, thereby enhancing infrastructure, boosting operational efficiency, and delivering world-class services,” he said.
Dr. Kana also highlighted that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the government is leveraging Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) as a strategic approach to developing the aviation sector.
NiMet’s participation and exhibition at the summit underscored its critical role in supporting the aviation industry through the provision of accurate weather and climate services essential for safe and efficient operations.
