Meteorological institute of Science and Technology Katsina was established to serve as a centre for training and research on Meteorological and climate change sciences. The Institute was created to serve as an International Resource Center for technological development by bringing into being highly skilled human resource via conventional and distance learning approaches driven by modern Information and communication technology (ICT) philosophy. The institute was officially commissioned by the Honourable Minister for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika on 21st May 2019. The Institute commenced its training programmes in January, 2020 at its permanent site located KM 4 IBB way, along Kano road, opposite Federal Secretariat office complex, Katsina, Katsina state –Nigeria.
To safeguard effective training and capacity building which are essential to the delivery of high quality standard products and services and maintain the maximum principle in meteorological and climate change research activities.
To ensure service delivery of adequate meteorological training to all categories of staff as well as engage in tailored research with a view to continuously improving the quality of the National Meteorological, Hydrological/Climate change Services of Western, Central and East Africa in particular and Africa in general.
The main objective of the MIST Katsina is to train, retrain and monitor Basic Instruction Package for Meteorological Technicians and Technologists (BIP-MT, ND and HND) in various aspects of meteorology in accordance with standards and guidelines of WMO prescribed in WMO-No. 1083 “Guidelines for the Education and Training of Personnel in Meteorology and Operational Hydrology” and the National Board for Technical Education curriculum (NBTE).
