FG Recognizes Transportation as Key to Economic Recovery

The Federal Government has recognized the transportation sector as a key component in its path to economic recovery.

The Minister of Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi disclosed this at the maiden edition of a seminar tagged “Forging a Resilient Transportation Industry in Nigeria” organized by the Abuja Transport and Aviation Correspondents Association (ATACA) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Transportation.

He said that the President Mohammed Buhari’s administration has taken a holistic approach through the development of sector-specific strategies that aims to revamp and make the various subsectors of the transportation industry self-sustaining.

Hon. Amaechi, who was represented by the Director of Press, Mrs. Yetunde Soniake, described the transportation industry as one of the highest employer of labour and the main driver and backbone of every prospering economy all over the world. He then congratulated the organizers of the seminar and emphasize that the ongoing relationship with the press is a mechanism that should ensure a smooth transition in the industry.

Earlier in his address, the Minister of State, Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika who was represented by the DG/CEO NiMet, Prof. Sani Abubakar Mashi noted that the commitment of the Aviation sector towards economic growth and development has put the country on a global scale, as it has recorded a lot of achievements.

According to Senator Sirika, some of these achievements include the recent certification of Murtala Mohammed Airport (MMA) in Lagos by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Standard Organization (ISO) ISO 9001:2015 Certification of NiMet aeronautical services. He also reiterated that the planned concession of two airports in Nigeria is basically to create opportunity for private sector participation and ensure that Nigerian Airports are among the best in the world in terms of effectiveness, safety and convenience for travelers in line with the vision of President Mohammed Buhari’s administration.
