NiMet TO COLLABORATE WITH ARCN ON DATA SHARING.
For local farmers to be adequately equipped with information for the 2017 farming season, the DG/CEO NiMet, Prof. Sani Mashi has called for the strengthening of collaborations with NGOs, Private and Corporate Organizations.
Prof. Mashi made this call when the Acting Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), Prof. A. A Voh Jr, and his team visited NiMet Headquarters. Speaking, Prof. Sani Abubakar Mashi, noted that the visit of the ARCN was timely as the agency had just released its 2017 Seasonal Rainfall Predictions to Nigerians.
He expressed the willingness of NiMet to strengthen synergy with ARCN in the areas of manpower development, provision of Seasonal Rainfall Prediction information, production of Agro-meteorological and drought monitoring information as well as makes available the data harnessed from the Agency’s 54 synoptic stations.
He also disclosed that copies of the SRP documents are being circulated to various end users across the country for proper planning in all weather-related sectors. Earlier during the visit, Prof. A. A Voh Jr had said that their visit was to explore avenues for further cooperation with NiMet to enhance the ARCN service delivery especially in areas of data sharing, research and capacity building.
Prof. Voh Jr. stressed the need for the use of technology generation and dissemination platforms to reach out to local farmers to guarantee improved productivity.
